Class Updates

Ms. Cason's Class (K-12)

Ms. Cason, Mrs. Sharpe and Ms. Johnson's class completed the GAA (Georgia Alternative Assessment) portfolios for the 2009-2010 school term. All students are gaining access to academic content at an entry level of GPS (Georgia Performance Standards).

The students are making progress in their individual ABA programs. Some students are working on visual performance and motor imitation skills. Other students are working on receptive language, intraverbal, math and labeling skills.

The students have been completing art and sensory tasks in the sensory room with seasonal themes. The class enjoys listening to and moving to music during music time.

Ms. Alford's Class (ELA/Reading)

Elementary: Students are continuing to progress in reading. We are focusing on vocabulary, defining words and writing sentences. In our grammar usage, we are learning about adjectives and adverbs, as well as using them correctly in our writing. We are preparing for the CRCT using our coach books daily.

Middle: Students are identifying and using pronouns in sentences with compounds and in sentences with interfering phrases. We will begin a project after the CRCT, learning to write and present a speech in front of an audience.

High: Students will continue to read short stories and poetry to recognize the relationship between ideas and to make sense of new information by identifying main ideas, cause and effect, and similarities and differences. We will also begin a project, writing speeches to persuade the audience.

Mrs. Rush's Class (Math)

With the CRCT quickly approaching, students are focusing their attention on reviewing for the big test.

Elementary: Students are focusing on Numbers and Operations domain, as well as Geometry and Measurement.

Middle: Students are concentrating on reviewing Algebra.

High: Students in Math I and Algebra are working on functions and graphing linear functions and equations. Those in Math II are currently studying about circles and spheres. All students are preparing for success on the End of Course Testing (EOCT) later this year.

Why Try?

Students meet three times a week to participate in this program. Students are continuing their focus on "Jumping Your Hurdles." This unit deals with identifying problems, how to create options, getting help, taking action, believing in change and jumping back up.

The Why Try? Program was founded by a group of individuals who shared a common desire to give students hope and help them overcome the challenges in life.

Bringing Students to School Late

Students arriving to school after 8:00 AM are considered tardy and must be signed-in at the office upon arrival.

Per Cedarwood policy, a Parent/Guardian must accompany the tardy student into the office to sign-in.

Parents are NOT permitted to drop students off in the parking lot. This is an issue of safety for the student, as well as our school.
